Joined by the President of the International Library and Information Science Society and the Chair of the Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning Section (2023–2027) of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions for a dynamic conversation on global and national frameworks shaping librarianship in Asia. We discuss how international competency standards and CPD initiatives intersect with local practices, and hear firsthand insights from two leaders at the forefront of professional development in the library world.

Presenter Info

Helen Chan

Ms. Helen Chan, the current Chair of the Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning (CPDWL), is an accomplished academic and professional in the library and information science sector. Prior to her current role, she chaired the IFLA Professional Division Committee of Division F and the IFLA Action Plan Review Committee, as well as served as a member of the Professional Council. Helen brings a strong academic background to her position, having taught for over a decade in the Master of Science in Library and Information Management program at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and founding and teaching a course for the Bachelor of Science in Information Management program at HKU. Her passion for accessible information continues to shape her professional activities. Beyond academia, Helen actively supports teacher-librarian professional training in Hong Kong and has contributed to local non-profit and educational initiatives, serving in directorial roles with an educational fund and a secondary school board.


Namtip Wipawin

Dr. Namtip Wipawin is a Professor in Information Science, School of Liberal Arts, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Thailand. She is the president of the International Library and Information Science(I-LISS), the president of the Thailand Literacy Association, and a vice-president of the Thai Library Association. Her research interests are Library and Information Management, Digital Repository Standards, Digital Archiving, and Digital Preservation.
