In 2017, the stewards of our collective knowledge gathered for the inaugural Libraries and Archives in the Anthropocene Colloquium to discuss how our profession responds to the mounting challenges of environmental disruption. Ten years later, the urgency of this mission has only intensified. Since we last met, cultural institutions have faced direct impacts from climate-related disasters, the rapid adoption of AI technologies has created massive new demands for water and power, and critical federal environmental protections have been dismantled.
Against this backdrop, we invite librarians, archivists, researchers, and community organizers to the second Libraries and Archives in the Anthropocene Colloquium (LAAC II). In the face of crisis, we seek to slow down, to mull over solutions, imagine new futures, and learn from emerging work. Sponsored by Library Juice Press, this colloquium aims to strengthen our relationships with sustainability, the natural environment, and one another.
