Library Juice Connections is a new, nonprofit initiative, which we hope you will become involved in as we launch and solidify. You may already know about Library Juice for its publishing and online education resources. This new project plans to build on our robust community to develop a service platform to provide educational opportunities, networking, and resources to empower library workers navigating complex labor issues. Services we are planning to offer over time include a system for sharing information among library freelancers, contractors, and consultants regarding emerging problems; information sharing regarding contractual terms with hiring institutions; sharing of work opportunities; mentoring; access to legal advice; and collective purchasing of information resources.

Pulling from interconnections across the Library Juice community’s shared experiences in the full range of library work and professional participation, we plan to continue our alignment with the history of radical education and activism that has long flourished within communities to foster spaces of resistance within capitalist superstructures. Library Juice Connections intends to be a community space for treating librarianship as a platform for action, creativity, and care, that will allow us to reflect honestly on how we will meet the challenges of our present and future. Ultimately, we want libraries to work: to work for the communities they are a part of, for the professionals that maintain them, and to work especially for those for whom they have never quite worked in the past.
